“¿Qué? ¿Te gusta tu trabajo? ¿Quieres un trabajo?” él grita con voz enojada.

Yo siempre compro libros en esta librería. Es muy grande, ¿verdad? La dueña se llama Teresa y es una mujer muy simpática. Además, ella sabe mucho sobre libros. Todas las semanas voy a la librería a comprar un nuevo libro. A veces, no sé qué libro escoger. Entonces, yo pregunto a Teresa y ella siempre dice “Los mejores libros son los de Cervantes y Gabriel García Márquez”.
I always buy books in this bookstore. It is very big, right? The owner’s name is Teresa and she is a very nice woman. Also, she knows alot about books. Every week I go to the bookstore to buy a new book. Sometimes, I don’t know which book to choose. So, I ask Teresa and she always says “The best books are those of Cervantes and Gabriel García Márquez”.
Por la noche, después de cenar, voy al salón a descansar. Me siento, abro un libro y empiezo a leer. A veces, escucho música al mismo tiempo. Me gustan los libros de historia. En especial, me gustan las biografías. La vida de actores, deportistas o políticos es muy interesante. Y yo siempre aprendo muchas cosas nuevas. Los libros son mejores que la televisión.
At night, after dinner, I go to the living room to rest. I sit down, open a book and start to read. Sometimes, I listen to music at the same time. I like history books. I esepcially like biographies. The lives of actors, athletes or politicians are very interesting. And I always learn a lot of new things. Books are better than the television.
Mi perro se llama Tom. Tiene 3 años y es mi mejor amigo. Es un San Bernardo precioso, muy grande y con un pelo muy brillante. Tom siempre está feliz. Pero por las mañanas, yo me voy a trabajar y Tom llora un poco. No quiere estar solo. Yo también estoy un poco triste, pero Tom no puede ir a trabajar conmigo. Mi jefe es alérgico a los perros.
My dog’s name is Tom. He’s 3 years old and is my best friend. He is a precious St. Bernard, very big and has very shiny hair. Tom is always happy. But in the mornings I go to work and Tom cries a little bit. He doesn’t want to be alone. I am also a little bit sad, but Tom cannot come to work with me. My boss is allergic to dogs.

At night we watch TV together. Tom likes action movies. Sometimes, he likes a scene very much and starts barking non-stop. Tom could bark for almost half an hour. So, my neighbour comes and says “I can’t sleep! I want to sleep!”. I say “I’m sorry, I will turn off the TV right away”. My poor neighbour has a lot of patience.

I like big pies, but my mom only makes small pies. She always says “this is a pie with few ingredients, but with a lot of love”. Sugar is very tasty, but it’s bad for your health. That is why she makes small pies. I think it’s a good idea: it’s a balance between the sweet life and a healthy life.
A veces, intento hacer postres en casa. Normalmente, busco recetas por internet. Pero siempre hago algo mal. Casi siempre olvido un ingrediente. Y, a veces, pongo la tarta en el horno, voy a ver la tele y me olvido de todo. Dos horas después, tengo un postre negro en la mesa de la cocina.
Sometimes, I try to make desserts at home. Normally, I search for recipes on the internet. But I always do something wrong. I almost always forget an ingredient. And sometimes, I put the cake in the oven, I go watch TV and I forget about everything. Two hours later I have a black dessert on the kitchen table.
Aprender idiomas es muy importante.Es útil para encontrar un buen trabajo, para viajar por el mundo y para muchas cosas más. Yo ahora tengo un objetivo: quiero hablar español bien. Quiero ir de vacaciones al norte de España. Para lograr mi objetivo, estudio tres días por semana: los lunes, miércoles y viernes.
Learning languages is very important. It’s useful to find a good job, to travel the world and for many other things. I now have an objective: I want to speak Spanish well. I want to go on holiday to the north of Spain. To achieve my goal, I study three days a week: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Mis amigos dicen que aprender idiomas es difícil. Mi opinión es otra. La motivación es lo más importante. Cuando estudias español, algunas cosas son fáciles y otras son difíciles. ¿Sabes usar las preposiciones? ¿Entiendes el tiempo pasado? ¿Puedes hacer una frase larga con tres verbos? Todas estas cosas son difíciles al principio. Pero si tienes motivación, todo es sencillo.
My friends say that learning languages is difficult. I have a different opinion. Motivation is the most important thing. When you study Spanish, some things are easy and others are difficult. Do you know how to use prepositions? Do you know the past tense? Can you creat a long sentence using 3 verbs? All these things are difficult at the beginning. But if you have motivation, everything is easy.
Ahora, además de estudiar español por la noche, también estudio durante el día. Es decir, escucho música en español a todas horas. Gracias a esto, todos los días aprendo palabras nuevas. Además, escribo estas palabras en un cuaderno. Todas las noches, leo el cuaderno en la cama. Y a veces, sueño en español. Esto significa que estudio español 24 horas al día.
Now, besides studying Spanish at night, I also study during the day. That’s to say, I listen to music in Spanish all the time. Thanks to that, I learn new words every day. And I also write those words in a notebook. Every night, I read the notebook in bed. And sometimes, I dream in Spanish. This means that I am styudying Spanish 24 hours a day.
Tengo un pequeño problema. A veces no puedo dormir por las noches. Esto es muy incómodo. Por la noche no duermo y después, al día siguiente, estoy cansado. El insomnio es algo normal. Muchas personas en todo el mundo tienen insomnio. El café es mi gran enemigo. A veces, tomo un café en el trabajo y, después, no puedo dormir. Es una pena, porque me gusta mucho el café
I have a little problem. Sometimes I can’t sleep at night. This is very uncomfortable. At night I don’t sleep and then, the next day, I’m sleepy. Insomnia is something normal. Many people in the whole world have insomnia. Coffee is my biggest enemy. Sometimes I have a coffee at work and, after, I can’t sleep. It’s a pity, because I really like coffee.
Hacer deporte es bueno para dormir mejor. Cuando hago deporte por las tardes, duermo muy bien. Pero a veces, voy a la cama y empiezo a leer un libro. Esto no es una buena idea, porque no puedo parar. Leo toda la noche y, después, tengo sueño en el trabajo. Por eso, tengo dos reglas para dormir bien: no puedo tomar café y no puedo leer en la cama.
Doing exercise helps you to sleep better. When I exercise in the afternoon, I sleep very good. But sometimes, I go to bed and start reading a book. This is not a good idea, because I can’t stop. I read all night and, after, I’m tired at work. That is why I have two rules to sleep good: I can’t have coffee and I can’t read in bed.
Mis dos reglas son buenas, pero no funcionan siempre. A veces, no tomo café y no leo en la cama, pero no puedo dormir. En esos casos, tengo un truco muy bueno: contar ovejas en español. En mi idioma, puedo contar mil ovejas y no puedo dormir. Pero en español mi sistema funciona siempre: una oveja, dos ovejas, tres, cuatro, cinco,… Mi truco siempre funciona. Bueno, casi siempre, porque sólo sé contar hasta cincuenta en español. Por eso, quiero mejorar mi español. Quiero aprender a contar mil ovejas.
My two rules are good, but don’t always work. Sometimes, I don’t have coffee and I don’t read in bed, but I can’t sleep. In those cases, I have a very good trick : count sheep in Spanish. In my language, I could count a thousand sheep and I can’t sleep. But in Spanish my system always workds: one sheep, two sheep, three, four, five,… My trick always works. Well almost always, because I only know how to count to fifty in Spanish. That is why I want to improve my Spanish. I want to learn to count one thousand sheep.
